EACH AND EVERY TUBE IS IMPORTANT
Editorial board of the Metal monthly addressed deputy chairman of the board with OJSC UkrGazProject Miroslav Yakimiv with a proposal to partake in absentee Round table, devoted to problems of tube production.
How does the present interior market for tubes look like?
One of the largest projects, which is presently underway in Ukraine’s fuel and energy sector, is expansion of gas and transportation system in Southern direction for the purpose of boosting transportation of Russia’s gas to Turkey and Balkan regions. Implementation of the project fostered creation of Ukrainian-Russian-Turkish joint-stock foreign capital company GazTransit. In compliance with the effective Agreement between Ukraine and Russia, annual transit of Russian gas through Ukraine towards Balkan countries should come to 36.7 bln. cu. m in 2005. The indicated project is more economical and likely to see faster implementation than the Blue Stream undertaking (on the Black Sea bottom), which is presently carried out in Russia. At present, activities are coming to an end under the first stage of the project for construction of Tarutino station with a 50 MW capacity on Ananyev-Tiraspol-Izmail gas-main. Putting on stream of the station will boost the system’s carrying capacity by 4 bln. cu. m per annum. The project is backed by loan resources from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and is a part of transnational project of Russian gas shipping to Turkey. The fact that Russian and Turkish parties participate in the project should guarantee successful implementation of goals set.
The second stage of the mentioned project is construction of looping on Ananyev-Izmail gas-main, which would consist of tubes dia 1,220 mm Ru 7.5 MPa, as well as extra bends on the Danube crossover. At present, our institute is finishing elaboration of the project for indicated construction. Thus, in the short-run, Khartsyzsk Tube Plant will obtain promising order to supply tubes Du 1,220 mm with outer plastic covering, as well as TU-U 322-8-1-95 (TU 14-3-1954-94).
Manufacturing of what types of tubes should be put on stream in Ukraine?
Ukrainian tube producers still do not manufacture thick-walled large-diameter tubes for gas mains, which are used in construction B sites as it is required by legal standards.
Considering the fact that many Western producers switched to manufacturing of oblongated tubes up to 18 m in length, Ukrainian producers should also take a hint. Plants should pay attention to unification of standard sizes of tubes (Western tubes are inch-measured in production), so that domestic and foreign tubes could be docked without additional joint coils.
To reconstruct gas mains, we need to get tubes of super stress-corrosion-resistant steel. However, we still have no idea about manufacturing of such tubes.
What range of tubes is the most popular in Ukraine today?
Concluding on the aforementioned, the most demand will be for tubes of 1,220 mm dia with various thickness of walls made of steel 09G2 upon TU-14-3-1837-92, as well as of tubes 1020 х 12.3 made of steel 10G2BTU under TU-14-3-1424-94. All tubes have plant-made anticorrosion coating.
Out of small-diameter tubes, which are engineered for high pressure, there is notable demand for tubes of 325 mm in dia with different walls of strength grade K 38, K 32 under TU 14-3-377-99 and TU -14-3-1128-82.
Installation of gas services for settlements requires various-diameter tubes within the state standard GOST 10707-91.
Outlooks for Ukrainian tube-makers have been defined. Time will show how well they heed to the advice.
