Equipment with NKMZ trademark to produce polymer coated rolled stock.

Novokramatorsky machine-building plant – NKMZ (Kramatorsk, Donetsk region) and SMS Demag (Germany) have jointly embarked on production of the equipment that will produce rolled metal of the highest corrosion resistance. The products will be widely applied in construction, car engineering, household, and other industries.

This latest novelty will be engineered for OJSC Severstal (Cherepovets) – large Russian producer. NKMZ won the keen competition with famous UralMash Company and SSM-TyazhMash Group.

Decision of OJSC Severstal was based on technical capacities, quality, and production period of the new line.

The equipment’s been designed for annual production of up to 200 ths. tons of 1,650 mm wide hot-galvanized rolled metal with polymer coating from 0.3 to 2 mm.

With properties of the rolled metal, as well as the equipment’s special features to coat metal with any polymer that is manufactured today in the world, Severstal will be able to present the new product to several markets at once. In particular, the company will meet demand of shaped roofing materials producers with wide range of products (construction industry) and saturate the market of household instrument making and white devices (refrigerators, microwaves, etc.)

Current supply lot from NKMZ includes 800 tons of the equipment, including facilities for coil and decoiler stocking shop, coiling machines, as well as sets of tensioning rollers, pulling and regulating rolls, loopers, and other articles. SMS Demag will engineer dozens of complex machines for polymer coating line.

Anatoly Kruchinin, OJSC Seversal director general, stressed at the opening ceremony of polymer coating shop construction that “this project is particularly important for the metallurgic company by a number of facts. It is one of the three largest projects in terms of investments. Its gross value including constriction is EUR 50 mln. Pay-off period including construction term is three years”. Mr. Kruchinin also highlighted short term of the project implementation: “The workshop should be commissioned by the end of this year, and in 2005 – it should work at full engineered capacity”.
