Mariupol Sea Port extends handling facilities.

Mariupol Sea Commercial Port fulfilled the program for the expanding of handling facilities for general cargoes. The main cause was the port’s reaction on sharp increasing in metal production by the regional specialized enterprises (annual production at Azovstal OJSC increased by +13.6%, Illiych ISW +20%).

In the end of the last year the port put in operation handling complex for general cargoes based on the new deep-water berth N18. Storage space of he complex made up 10 ths sq m (onetime storage up to 0.1 mn t of metal cargo). The port increased dry bulk handling (over +25% in January-February – an absolute record among the leading ports) up to 1.85 mn t or more than 13% of the port’s last year cargo turnove). This resulted in launching of the additional covered warehouse for metal cargo 2 ths sq m space. The port also provided specialization of the existing berths and warehouses according to the kinds of metal articles exported.

The port also received a support from Ukrmorport SE for the reconstruction of berth N7. Project cost – UAH 17.5 mn (about USD 3.3 mn).
